William's Story

I had started smoking due to an overwhelming amount of stress, but I’m a heart attack survivor and a heart valve transplant recipient. Knowing I had to stop, I was using patches and other things. In late July, I had a case of food poisoning. During the three to four days I couldn’t hold down water, I, of course, didn’t smoke. When I felt good enough to eat and smoke, I didn’t start again. I feel the three to four days when you first stop are the worst. Use an illness to help. Anything that breaks the cycle. You can, I did, we will.
