Quit Story: Melissa

Melissa

I’m not going back. I will not smoke.

I was 21 when I started smoking and continued to smoke for 35 years. At first, it was just for socializing, but then I realized, I just smoked. I tried to quit twice before, but my heart was never really in it.

When my cousin was diagnosed with lung cancer, I realized that when I stepped outside to smoke, I was taking time away from the limited moments I had left with her. So, on March 8th, I quit. On May 14th, I lost my cousin. I quit not for her, but because of her. I’m not going back. I will not smoke.

A few months later after a horrible day at work, I went out to my truck and called the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline. I talked with a Coach for 15-20 minutes, and she was so patient with me. She helped me so much.

I’m so glad I called them; it made a world of difference. If you want to quit, call the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline.
