Asking for help quitting tobacco takes courage. The Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline is here to take the pressure off with nonjudgmental quit support. While that first step and the first Coaching call might sound intimidating, they don’t have to be! Here’s what to expect when you quit tobacco with the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline.
What happens when I call?
When you call the Helpline, you’ll speak with a registration specialist who will ask some basic questions and take your information — including a mailing address for your patches, gum or lozenges.
Once your information is entered, you’ll be transferred to a Coach who will help build your quit plan with you. If you don’t have time for a Coach call, you can request a call later.
What if I don’t want to talk on the phone?
Not up for a chat? No worries! There’s no “right” way to start your quit journey — we’re here to meet you where you are. We have options that work with your style and schedule:

We get it — nobody likes a pop quiz! Those questions help us tailor our support just for you. Think of it like creating your personal roadmap to quitting. The more we know, the better we can help navigate your journey to tobacco-free living. It also helps us learn vital information, like where to ship your nicotine replacement therapy so you have it in time for your quit date.
What is nicotine replacement therapy?
Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) is any product designed to help you quit tobacco by providing controlled amounts of nicotine without the harmful chemicals found in cigarettes and other tobacco products. They can help manage cravings and withdrawal symptoms as you work toward a tobacco-free life. Think of them as your training wheels or safety net! It’s not about trading one form of nicotine for another; it’s about giving yourself a safe and supportive jumpstart.
How does each type of nicotine replacement therapy work?
At the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline, we offer three types of nicotine replacement therapy for FREE: patches, gum and lozenges. Let’s break them down:
- Patches are discreet and stick to your skin. They offer a slow, steady release of nicotine, silently soothing your nicotine cravings. These are ideal for people who work long hours or are looking for long-lasting support. Depending on the answers from your questionnaire, your Coach will help determine the starting dose before safely and gradually reducing it.
- Gum helps when sudden, unexpected cravings hit. It quickly nips them in the bud while also distracting your mouth — a one-two punch.
- Lozenges fight cravings from the inside out. Pop one in your mouth and let it dissolve slowly. As it melts, it releases nicotine that’s absorbed through your mouth. Lozenges are great for those times when you can’t chew gum (like during a meeting) but need to tackle a craving.
When designing a quit plan, your Coach can help you find the nicotine replacement therapy that works for you.
How long does it take my nicotine replacement therapy to arrive?
Good news! Your recommended supply of patches, gum or lozenges should land on your doorstep within 3-5 business days. Think of it as a little care package with the tools to kick those cravings to the curb. You can also pick a quit date, so your nicotine replacement therapy is there for day one and track your shipment on your Dashboard.
What is the Dashboard?
The Dashboard is your online hub where you can track your nicotine replacement therapy shipment, set your quit date, plan your goals, monitor your health and access helpful resources. You can also receive tips leading up to your quit date to help you feel ready. The Dashboard is like having a cheerleader, Coach and library all in one spot.
What are the live online group sessions?
Our live online group sessions open the door to connect with peers, share experiences and offer encouragement in a Coach-led environment. The goal is for you to leave each session with new strategies, tips and a boost of motivation.
What can I expect from the text messages?
Our supportive text messages serve as daily pep talks. Expect a mix of both automated tips and encouragements, plus personalized messages from a Coach. You can participate in one or both — whatever you need.
What can I expect from the emails?
Your inbox will get a little extra love from us! We’ll send quit tips, success stories and words of encouragement.
